NBN creates 130 jobs for the Gold Coast

Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, and Labor Senator for Queensland, Joe Ludwig, today welcomed the official opening of the NBN National Contact Centre on the Gold Coast, which will create up to 130 local jobs.

“This is another example of the Gillard Government’s investment in the National Broadband Network creating local jobs and boosting local economies.

“The 130 new jobs at the National Contact Centre are in addition to the 16,000 to 18,000 construction jobs expected to be created at the peak of the NBN rollout,” Senator Conroy said.

As the NBN rollout ramps up across Australia, the contact centre at Varsity Lakes will play a critical role in responding to enquiries from the general public, property developers and businesses.

“NBN Co is on track to meet its target of having work commenced or completed for 758,000 homes and businesses across Australia by the end of the year.

“There are over 20,000 Australians already connected to the NBN and enjoying the fast, reliable and affordable broadband that it provides.”

“I congratulate NBN Co for locating its national call centre on the Gold Coast, but it’s not the only way the Gold Coast will benefit from the NBN,” Senator Ludwig said.

“The NBN is rolling out for homes and businesses across the Gold Coast, including Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Ashmore, and Southport, with construction to be commenced or completed by June 2015.”

“It will bring tremendous economic and social benefits to the Gold Coast and the rest of Queensland, including better education, health, and small business opportunities.”
