New director appointed to NBN Co Limited board
The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, and Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Senator Penny Wong, have congratulated Mr Brad Orgill on his appointment to the board of NBN Co Limited, as well as the reappointments of Ms Diane Smith-Gander and Ms Siobhan McKenna.
"Mr Orgill has valuable financial experience and a background in advising government as a member of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority Board and the former Chair of the Building the Education Revolution Taskforce," Senator Conroy said.
"I congratulate Mr Orgill on his appointment, which is effective immediately, and look forward to having a person of his experience and skill on the NBN Co Limited board," Senator Conroy said.
Mr Orgill has extensive experience working in global financial markets, spending 22 years at the UBS Group before retiring in 2008 as Chairman of UBS Australia. He was previously CEO of UBS Investment Bank Australia and Head of Asia and Asia-Pacific Equities.
Following his retirement from UBS, Mr Orgill chaired the Australian Government's Building the Education Revolution Taskforce. He represents the Commonwealth on the Queensland Reconstruction Authority Board, and is a member of the Regional Development Australia Fund Advisory Panel.
Minister for Finance and Deregulation Senator Penny Wong also congratulated Mr Orgill on his appointment.
"Mr Orgill is a highly skilled executive who has significant experience both in the private sector and on a number of boards," Minister Wong said.
Senator Wong and Senator Conroy also congratulated the current Deputy Chair, Ms Diane Smith-Gander, and Director, Ms Siobhan McKenna, who have been reappointed and will continue to serve on the NBN Co Limited board for a second three-year term.
Senator Conroy thanked outgoing Directors, Mr Peter Hay and Mr Gene Tilbrook, for their contribution to the company.
"Mr Hay and Mr Tilbrook have played an important role over the past three years as NBN Co has grown from a start up operation to an established company, ready to ramp up the rollout of high-speed broadband to all Australians," Senator Conroy said.
