Local Help for the Riverland to Get Ready for Digital TV

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, today announced residents in the Riverland region of South Australia would have a local source of information and advice on switching to digital TV.

Mr John Page has been appointed as the Digital Switchover Liaison Officer for the Riverland area.

Mr Page will work with local organisations and community groups to raise awareness of the digital switchover and advise people how to get ready for digital-only free to air TV in the Riverland region from 15 December 2010.

"As the local Digital Switchover Liaison Officer Mr Page will play an important role ensuring people have the information they need to get ready for digital TV," Senator Conroy said.

Eighty per cent of households in the Riverland region were digital ready in the first quarter of 2010 according to the Digital Tracker survey.

“The Liaison Officer will work closely with local organisations and community groups with a particular focus on those households yet to convert to digital TV," Senator Conroy said.

Mr Page will use his local knowledge and contacts built up over many years in local business and community activities, including with the local commercial TV broadcaster, to work with the Riverland community to get ready for the switchover.

The Digital Switchover Liaison Officer position is funded by the Australian Government and hosted by Regional Development Australia Murraylands and Riverland Inc.

Community organisations who would like to find out more about the digital switchover can contact John Page through the Digital Ready information line on 1800 20 10 13. Mr Page will commence his work in the Riverland community from the week commencing 7 June 2010.
