Local help for Broken Hill to get ready for Digital TV

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, today announced residents in Broken Hill would have a local source of information and advice on switching to digital TV.

Mr Ray Gardoll has been appointed as a Digital Switchover Liaison Officer for the Broken Hill area and is based at the Broken Hill City Council.

Mr Gardoll will work with local organisations and community groups to raise awareness of the digital switchover and advise people how to get ready for digital-only free to air TV in the Broken Hill area from 15 December 2010.

"As the local Digital Switchover Liaison Officer, Mr Gardoll will play an important role ensuring people have the information they need to get ready for digital TV," Senator Conroy said.

Executive Director of the Digital Switchover Taskforce, Andy Townend, said 66 per cent of households in the Broken Hill switchover region were digital ready in the first quarter of 2010 according to the Digital Tracker survey.

This was up by 11 percentage points on the previous quarter, and up by 21 percentage points with the same quarter in 2009.

“The Liaison Officer will focus on those households which are yet to convert to digital TV,” Mr Townend said.

The Digital Switchover Liaison Officer position is funded by the Australian Government and hosted by the Broken Hill City Council.

Mr Gardoll can be contacted through the Digital Ready Information Line on 1800 20 10 13.
