ICT industry supports Victorian bushfire relief

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy today welcomed the support of the Australian ICT industry for Victorian bushfire relief efforts.

"Public and corporate support for the Victorian bushfire relief and recovery effort has been overwhelming," Senator Conroy said.

"I welcome the efforts of the Australian ICT industry, coordinated by the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), to assist with the provision of vital information and communications technology."

The AIIA in partnership with Infoxchange Australia has created a website to facilitate ICT donations to assist the relief effort.

The industry-wide response is intended to include the provision of free, fully operational computers to families and small businesses in need.

In addition to helping individuals and families in need, the AIIA also aims to deliver assistance to support services involved in the crisis.

"The scale of this disaster and the response from people involved is like nothing we have seen before in Australia," Senator Conroy said.

"Efforts to support those impacted, such as that of the Australian ICT industry, are a testament to the charitable and resilient culture of the nation."
