Re-appointments to the Council of the National Gallery of Australia
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the reappointments of Mr Robert Champion de Crespigny AC and Mrs Roslyn Packer to the Council of the National Gallery of Australia for a further three years.
“I am very pleased that both Mr Champion de Crespigny and Mrs Packer have agreed to continue as members of the Council,” Senator Kemp said.
“Both Mr Champion de Crespigny and Mrs Packer bring a range of skills and expertise to the National Gallery, and contribute to its ongoing strengths and sustainability.”
Mr Champion de Crespigny was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Australian-based international gold company, Normandy Mining Limited from 1985 to 2002 and Chancellor of the University of Adelaide from 2000 to 2004. Mr Champion de Crespigny is currently chairman of the Economic Development Board of South Australia.
He was first appointed to the Council of the National Gallery in 2002 and has made a significant contribution to the arts as Chairman of the South Australian Museum for ten years and as member of the Australia Business Arts Foundation.
Mrs Packer was also initially appointed to the Council of the National Gallery in 2002, and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of St Vincent’s Clinic Foundation. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, the Advisory Committee for Christie’s Australia Pty Ltd and a Director of the Sydney Festival Limited.
The National Gallery is an Australian Government agency which aims to serve the public by enhancing understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts.
The Gallery develops, maintains and exhibits the national collection of more than 100,000 works.
