Re-appointments to Australia Council’s Music Board

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the re-appointment of Mrs Carol Day and Father Arthur Bridge to the Music Board of the Australia Council.

The Music Board is responsible for supporting the development of work across the broad range of Australian music practice.

“I am delighted at the re-appointment of both Mrs Day and Father Bridge to the Music Board,” Senator Kemp said.

Mrs Day has had a long involvement with the West Australian Youth Orchestra Association where she was an association founder in 1974 and Chairman of the Board since 1987. For her services to youth music and the community, Mrs Day was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 1995 and a Centenary Medal in 2003.

Father Arthur Bridge has been re-appointed to the Music Board as a community interest representative. His work in New South Wales with both the Academy of St Cecilia and Ars Musica Australis has given many people the opportunity to perform, write music, and to receive scholarships. In 2004 Father Bridge was awarded an Order of Australia Member for his service to music and the arts.

“ Father Bridge has a wide understanding of the relationship between the general community and musical production. He has been a great asset as community interest representative on the Music Board in the past,” Senator Kemp said.

“Mrs Day and Father Bridge have both served on the Board since 2002. Their knowledge and experience will continue to be of great assistance to the Board,” Senator Kemp said.

The Australia Council is the Australian Government’s principal arts funding and advisory body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to arts and cultural activities.
