Re-appointment to Australia Council’s Visual Arts/Craft Board

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the re-appointment of Ms Liz Williamson to the Visual Arts/Craft Board (VACB) of the Australia Council for the Arts.

“I am delighted that Ms Williamson has agreed to serve another 12-month term as a community interest representative on the VACB,” Senator Kemp said.

“Ms Williamson has been a great asset to the Board since her appointment in September 2002 .”

Ms Williamson is a weaver, and is Lecturer and Textiles Coordinator in the School of Design Studies at the University of New South Wales.

Since 1985, Ms Williamson has been represented in many group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, and has given seven solo exhibitions. Her awards include an Australian Craft Show Award (1992), First Prize, ‘Scarf scarf, 1000 scarves’ exhibition (1998), the Norwellan Upholstery Designer Award (1988) and the Hoechst National Textile Award (1984).

Recent projects have included residencies at the Centre for Contemporary Textiles, Montreal, Canada (1998 to 2004); Lisio Foundation, Florence, Italy (2001) and at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland (2002).

The Visual Arts/Craft Board supports the creation, interpretation and presentation of contemporary Australian visual arts and craft.

The Australia Council is the Australian Government’s arts funding body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to arts and cultural activities.
