Re-appointment to Australia Council’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the re-appointment of Janina Harding to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board (ATSIAB) of the Australia Council for the Arts.

‘Ms Janina Harding has made a valuable contribution to ATSIAB since her original appointment in 2002 and I am delighted that she has agreed to serve another 12 month term as a community interest representative,’ Senator Kemp said.

Janina Harding is originally from the Torres Strait and currently works for the City of Melbourne as the Indigenous Arts Program Manager. She has also been an artistic associate with the Melbourne Festival and Indigenous resource manager for the Victorian College of the Arts, and has taught Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

The Board supports the development and promotion of traditional arts practices, as well as the generation of new forms of cultural/artistic expression among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in urban and regional areas, in all artforms. It also encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to seek grants offered by the other boards of the Australia Council.

The Australia Council is the Australian Government’s arts funding body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to arts and cultural activities.
