Old Parliament House Council re-appointments

The Minister for Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the reappointment of the Hon Barry Cohen and Marilyn Darling as members of the Old Parliament House Governing Council.

“Old Parliament House has benefited greatly from Mr Cohen and Mrs Darling’s knowledge, expertise and experience in past years and I am very pleased they have agreed to continue their involvement”, Senator Kemp said.

“Their ongoing participation as council members will help to ensure continuity in the governance of Old Parliament House, an institution which has become an important and much-loved national cultural icon”.

Mr Cohen is a journalist, author and a former Minister in the Hawke Government.

Mrs Darling is a strong supporter of the visual arts and was recently re-appointed as Chair of the National Portrait Gallery Board. She is also deputy chair of the Gordon Darling Foundation, Melbourne, a member of the Gordon Darling Australasian Print Fund and a member of the Tate Gallery International Council.

Old Parliament House was home to Australia's Federal Parliament from 1927 to 1988. It is now a museum of social and parliamentary history in a heritage building, and offers a unique glimpse into Australia's political past.

Old Parliament House is funded by the Australian Government and is administered by Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts.
