New Appointment to Australia Council
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Mr Timothy O’Loughlin to the Australia Council for the Arts for a three-year term.
‘I would like to welcome Mr O’Loughlin as a community interest representative on the Australia Council’, Senator Kemp said.
‘Mr O’Loughlin’s background and experience will be of great benefit to the broader community and I am sure he will make a valuable contribution to the Australia Council.’
Mr O’Loughlin is a senior executive within the South Australian Public Service, and was most recently Chief Executive, Department of Transport and Urban Planning. Prior to that he was Executive Director, Arts SA.
He is currently a Board member of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and was previously the Chair of the State Opera of South Australia and a member of the Symphony Australia Board.
Mr O’Loughlin’s experience includes initiating Australia’s first Ring Cycle in 1998 and securing State and Commonwealth funding for the second which occurred in 2004. He established new governance arrangements and performance standards for State flagship arts companies, and reformed grants processes for small subsidised companies and individual artists.
He also helped establish the South Australian-based Windmill Theatre Company as the first national children’s company in Australia.
The Australia Council for the Arts is the Australian Government’s arts funding body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to
arts and cultural activities.
