Funding to take arts on tour
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced funding of more than $800 000 to support the development and touring of exhibitions of cultural material, under the latest round of the Australian Government’s Visions of Australia program.
“Through the Visions of Australia funding program, more and more Australians are accessing and enjoying the nation’s unique cultural collections,” Senator Kemp said.
“This round of funding will assist regional galleries, arts groups and institutions, including several universities, to develop or tour innovative exhibitions across several states and territories.”
Some of the other exhibitions to receive assistance include:
- ConVerge: Northern Rivers Touring Ceramic Exhibition—Arts Northern Rivers Inc will tour the exhibition to regional galleries. The exhibition aims to stimulate critical discussion about contemporary ceramic practice.
- Habitats—being developed for tour by International Art Space Kellerberrin Australia in Western Australia. Artists and CSIRO scientists will work with local communities, land care groups and rural students to research the interaction between natural and human living environments.
- Great Railway Journeys of Australia—being developed for tour by the Workshop Rail Museum in Queensland. It explores some of the most famous railway journeys within Australia from a historical and contemporary perspective.
- Marks and Motifs: Prints from the PCA Collection—This Queensland University of Technology exhibition explores aspects of contemporary Australian printmaking through works drawn from the Print Council of Australia’s archival collection in Melbourne.
- Wrecked—being toured by the South Australian Maritime Museum, examines the dramatic stories of shipwrecks on the southern Australian coast. It includes 120 objects recovered from these wrecks. The exhibition explores shipping disasters, their place in the popular imagination and in migration history.
The Visions of Australia program provides assistance to museums, galleries, libraries, archives and community organisations to develop and tour exhibitions nationally. Full details of the latest funding recipients can be found at www.dcita.gov.au/visions
