David Barnett reappointed to Council of the National Museum of Australia

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the reappointment of journalist Mr David Barnett OBE to the Council of the National Museum of Australia (NMA).

Mr Barnett’s new three-year term commenced on the 22 nd April, 2005.

The new term continues Mr Barnett’s positive and long running involvement with the Museum. He was first appointed to the NMA Council in 1998 when the museum was still under construction.

Mr Barnett’s journalistic career spans five decades of news reporting from within Australia and from Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia.

He is currently chairing the Collections Committee of the NMA Council.

‘Mr Barnett’s contribution to the development of the National Museum of Australia has been invaluable,’ Senator Kemp said.

‘The experience and insight he has brought to his work on the NMA Council have helped to establish the museum as one of Australia’s most dynamic and exciting cultural institutions.’

‘I am very pleased that Mr Barnett will continue to contribute to the Museum’s vision and future direction.’
