Creative Volunteering continues to open new doors
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, announced a $1 million extension of the Government’s Creative Volunteering—No Limits Program while attending a regional forum in Toowoomba today.
Creative Volunteering—No Limits aims to increase the professional skills of volunteer workers in the arts and collections sectors in regional and remote Australia.
“I am sure that the skills and expertise fostered through Creative Volunteering will ensure that cultural tourism can thrive and prosper through our regional arts and collection institutions,” Senator Kemp said.
The Australian Government first funded the Creative Volunteering program 2001 for a three year period. The Government renewed it’s commitment to the program under the Regional Arts Fund in the 2004–05 Budget, for which funding increased to $16.1 million over four years following an election commitment.
“The Creative Volunteering initiative provides an opportunity for volunteers to gain accredited skills on areas such as networking, funding and resources, business planning and marketing,” Senator Kemp said.
“Training will now be available to a wider number of arts and museums volunteers across Australia.”
As part of the next phase of the Program, volunteers will be able to receive skills training in two new modules, ‘Governance’ and ‘People and Partnerships’.
Creative Volunteering—No Limits is managed by Regional Arts Australia. Further information is available by contacting Regional Arts Australia on 08 8444 0400 or from their website www.regionalarts.com.au
