Australian Sports Drug Agency Board reappointment

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the reappointment of Dr Andrew McLachlan to the Board of the Australian Sports Drug Agency (ASDA).

“I am delighted that Dr McLachlan has agreed to continue working with the Australian Sports Drug Agency for another one year term,” Senator Kemp said.

“Given his extensive experience as a research scientist, Dr McLachlan will continue to bring an extremely well-informed scientific perspective to the ASDA Board as it faces the challenges in the fight against doping in sport,” Senator Kemp said.

“The Australian Government takes very seriously the fight against doping in sport and has invested significant funds into our Tough on Drugs policy in recent years. Under the expanded commitment, the ASDA will receive $9.1 million in the coming year for testing, education, communication and advocacy services. ”

Dr McLachlan was first appointed to the ASDA Board in 1999. A pharmacist and research scientist with experience in drug action and disposition in the body, Dr McLachlan’s current academic positions at the University of Sydney include Senior Lecturer and Associate Dean (Postgraduate) of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Dr McLachlan is also Adjunct Senior Lecturer of the School of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of NSW.

Dr McLachlan’s main research interests are in the area of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics where he has authored and co-authored over 60 papers in peer reviewed journals.

“Dr McLachlan’s expertise is greatly valued and he will continue to make a significant contribution to the operations of the ASDA Board.”
