VISIONS OF AUSTRALIA FUNDING

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced funding of $681,389 for 15 exhibitions in the latest round of grants under the Visions of Australia program.

'The program encourages organisations to extend their tours to areas throughout Australia that would not normally receive exhibitions of such cultural significance,' Senator Kemp said

The exhibitions include:

  • works by developing, established and major artists who have worked at Bundanon, the property owned and occupied by Arthur Boyd, as artists in residence-Being at Bundanon;
  • a major retrospective of Margaret Preston, one of Australia's most significant early modernist artists-The Margaret Preston Retrospective; and
  • contemporary and emerging jewellery techniques and materials-Melding: The uniting of many to strengthen all.

The exhibitions will be seen in areas including Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, Rockhampton in Queensland, Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory, Launceston in Tasmania, Bendigo in Victoria, Grafton in New South Wales and Millicent in South Australia.

'These latest touring exhibitions demonstrate the Australian Government's commitment to ensure as many Australians as possible are able to share in our artistic and cultural heritage,' Senator Kemp said.

A full list of the successful grantees for the program is attached and available online from the 'arts and culture' home page at www.dcita.gov.au.

Visions of Australia aims to make exhibitions of cultural material accessible to more Australians by providing grants to cultural and community organisations to tour exhibitions of historical and scientific material, visual arts and craft, multimedia and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture throughout Australia.
