Roslynne Bracher to join National Gallery Council
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Ms Roslynne Bracher to the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) Council.
'It is a pleasure to welcome Ms Bracher, as she brings to the Council a significant cultural background. She is a passionate collector of traditional and contemporary indigenous art, having spent most of her life in the Northern Territory. Ms Bracher has accumulated an extensive personal art collection, which includes paintings, sculptures and antiquities, for over 40 years.
'Ms Bracher was a violinist with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra, and served as Chairperson of the Orchestra from 1986 to 1995 and remains a Patron of the Orchestra.'
Ms Bracher's appointment will enhance the financial expertise of the Council.
Ms Bracher is involved with some aspects of her family owned business, Paspaley Pearl Group of Companies - the world's leading producer of South Sea Pearls.
The Paspaley Company plays an active role in the Darwin arts community as major sponsors of the Australian Ballet, the National Library and the International Piano Competition.
Ms Bracher is also an inaugural member of the Northern Territory Government House Foundation Committee and has been a board member of the Northern Territory University Foundation. In 2002, she was appointed the Honorary Consul-General of Japan for the Northern Territory.
'I am very pleased that Ms Bracher has agreed to join the NGA Council and I look forward to her contribution over the next three years,' Senator Kemp said.
