Reappointment to the National Archives of Australia Advisory Council
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the reappointment of Mr Tony Rutherford to the National Archives of Australia (NAA) Advisory Council.
'Mr Rutherford has been a valuable member of the National Archives of Australia Committee since his appointment in July 2001 and I am delighted that he has agreed to serve another three years,' Senator Kemp said.
Mr Rutherford is a senior policy consultant and a freelance columnist who writes for The West Australian. Between 1991 and 1997 he held various positions with the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA), including editor of IPA Review. Mr Rutherford holds a Master of Letters from the University of Edinburgh and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia.
'The National Archives is an important national resource and one that increasingly plays an essential role in promoting good government record keeping, encouraging community awareness and use of valuable Australian Government records,' Senator Kemp said.
The National Archives also produces a variety of fascinating exhibitions many of which tour throughout Australia. Currently on show is Charters of Our Nation, which brings together important documents in Australia's history including our national 'birth certificates'.
