OPENING OF MOUNT PANORAMA REDEVELOPMENT
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, representing the Prime Minister, and the Hon. Bob Carr, Premier of New South Wales, today jointly opened stage one of the redevelopment of Mount Panorama. The feature of stage one is a new international standard pit complex, with new garages, corporate suites, administration and media facilities. Stage one also features a redeveloped pit paddock area and improved spectator facilities.
The Coalition Government provided $10 million in the 2004-05 Budget to the Bathurst City Council to assist with the upgrade of facilities at the Mount Panorama motor racing circuit.
"Mount Panorama is an iconic location on the Australian sporting landscape, and this upgrade ensures a bright future for the racing circuit", Senator Kemp said. "The upgrade will ensure the Bathurst 1000 kilometre race continues for the next ten years with an option to stage the race at Bathurst for a further decade."
"When the redevelopment of Mount Panorama is fully completed, the circuit will be the envy of the motor sport world", Senator Kemp said.
