National Film and Video Lending Service moves to ScreenSound
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced that the management of Australian Government's National Film and Video Lending Service will be transferred to the Australian Film Commission from the National Library of Australia.
'The National Film and Video Lending Service is one of Australia's premier non-commercial film and video collections and one of the most significant collections of its kind in the world,' Senator Kemp said.
The Service will be managed and developed by ScreenSound Australia, the National Screen and Sound Archive in Canberra.
'The decision to deliver the service from ScreenSound in Canberra, enables this important cultural asset of national and international cinema study material to be brought to the organisation at a key point in its growth,' said Senator Kemp said.
'The National Film and Video Lending Service will contribute substantially to ScreenSound's programs and its ability to expand delivery of national screenings and education.
'This decision helps bring more closely together ScreenSound and key national players in Australia's screen education, screen culture and film appreciation sectors.'
The Archive is working closely with the National Library of Australia and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI)-where the service is being provided to date-to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption to clients. ScreenSound will take responsibility for delivering the service from today.
