More funding for Queensland regional arts
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the latest round of grants for Queensland arts initiatives under the Australian Government's Regional Arts Fund.
'More than $115,000 has been allocated across seven projects that will provide greater access to the arts and cultural skills development for a diverse range of community groups,' Senator Kemp said.
'The Australian Government welcomes the opportunity to support these cultural development initiatives in regional areas across Queensland.'
Funded projects from this round include:
- Song Circles aims to integrate people with and without disabilities in a newly formed choir in Cairns that focuses on each member finding an expressive musical voice and will link to similar choirs in other areas.
- My Space will engage with young people at risk from Mackay, Sarina and Rockhampton in telling their own stories using film, sound technology and handmade musical instruments to explore the spaces they live in and of which they dream.
- The Multi Media Resource Development project will train young people in the use of multimedia technologies to assist young West Cape York artists to develop a multimedia resource that describes their artwork and culture.
'The seven projects to receive funding will greatly benefit individual and entire arts communities in regional Queensland,' Senator Kemp said.
'The projects have the potential to develop stronger local development and mentoring opportunities for regional artists.'
The Regional Arts Fund supports the arts in regional and remote areas of Australia. Queensland Arts Council manages the fund in Queensland. More information about the Regional Arts Fund is available from Queensland Arts Council on 07 3004 7511 or on the website: www.dcita.gov.au.
