Hub building offers bright future for VCA
The VCA Hub Building will ensure that the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) maintains an enviable reputation for providing a first rate arts education, the Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp said at the opening of the new 'Hub' facilities today.
The Australian Government supported the development of the Hub building facilities with $10 million provided to the VCA through the Federation Fund program - a $1 billion program established to finance substantial capital projects throughout Australia marking the Centenary of Federation.
The funding was used in the construction of the new Performing Arts building, the extension of the library and union building facilities, the improvement of existing performance and exhibition spaces, and the construction of Federation Hall.
The VCA will also receive funding from the Australian Government's Indigenous Education Direct Assistance (IEDA) Programme for the 2004 Indigenous Performing Arts Expo. The IEDA Programme is aimed at improving the level of education access, participation and outcomes for Indigenous Australians equal to that of other Australians
Senator Kemp also unveiled the interactive sculpture Continuous Document, commissioned for the new building.
'Continuous Document is as much an art event as it is a sculpture, and I am honoured to officially unveil it today,' Senator Kemp said.
