Heartwork beats for regional Australia

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, and the Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today launched 'Heartwork - Great arts stories from regional Australia', a joint publication from Regional Arts Australia (RAA) and the Australia Council.

'Heartwork is an important publication. It profiles 35 significant regional arts projects from around the country, highlighting the quality and scope of artistic activity across Australia,' Mr Anderson said.

'Heartwork recognises hard work - the hard work of regional artists and leaders in our arts communities, as well as the collaborative efforts of RAA and the Australia Council.'

'The Australian Government provided $85,000 through the Regional Arts Fund (RAF) for Heartwork and committed a further $10.7 million over four years in this year's Budget to RAF to continue to support sustainable community-related cultural development in regional Australia,' Senator Kemp said.

Collaboration between RAA and the Australia Council has provided considerable benefits for regional Australia, and renewed funding for the RAF will help to ensure regional arts continue to grow.

'The Regional Arts Fund is one of several programs funded by the Coalition to improve arts and cultural services for regional Australia, including Playing Australia, Festivals Australia, Visions of Australia and the Contemporary Music Touring Program,' Senator Kemp said.

Heartwork follows on from 'The Great Yarn Event and Other Arts Stories from Regional Australia' published in 1998, a previous joint publication from the Australia Council and RAA.
