Funding boost for South Australia's regional arts

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the latest round of funding for South Australian arts initiatives under the Australian Government's Regional Arts Fund.

'With more than $88,000 allocated to 22 projects, involving more than 50 South Australian communities, the Regional Arts Fund provides a solid base for locally determined and managed cultural development initiatives,' Senator Kemp said.

'These projects are helping to ensure that South Australia's regional communities continue to have access to the highest quality opportunities to participate in the arts and cultural development.'

Major initiatives supported in this round include:

  • Silk Ceilings and Felt Walls will bring together past and present clients of the Eyre Peninsula Women's & Children's Support Centre to create commemorative art pieces through the design and creation of a silk ceiling and felt walls.
  • Word of Mouth is a project that seeks to develop and support young writers from the Riverland region on a long-term basis.
  • Big Country Choir is a regional community choir being developed to include people with a variety of disabilities drawn from the community of Clare and surrounding areas.
'Communities in regional South Australia continue to expand their horizons through innovative and interesting projects,' Senator Kemp said.

'Their ability to generate other forms of support for their projects and their capacity to see them through to completion is second to none.

'I have no doubt the current round of projects supported through the Regional Arts Fund will be no exception'.

The Regional Arts Fund is an Australian Government initiative supporting the arts in regional and remote Australia.
