Doug Anthony to Chair OPH for another year

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the reappointment of the Rt Hon Doug Anthony, AC CH as Chairman of the Old Parliament House (OPH) Governing Council for a further one-year term.

'OPH has already benefited greatly from Mr Anthony's wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience,' Senator Kemp said.

'He is eminently qualified to continue the role, he has so ably carried out since 1999, oversighting and advising OPH in its role as a museum of social, political and parliamentary history.'

Mr Anthony is a former Deputy Prime Minister and was Leader of the National Party (previously the Country Party) from 1971-84. During his 27 years in Federal Parliament he held numerous ministries.

He is currently Chairman of Northern Rivers Railroad Pty Ltd, and a director of Clyde Agriculture Ltd and John Swire & Sons Pty Ltd (Australia). He was previously Chairman of the Regional Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund.

'In addition to his lengthy service as a Member of Parliament, minister and party leader, working in OPH when it was the home of the Federal Parliament, Mr Anthony is also the son of an MP and spent parts of his childhood in and around OPH,' Senator Kemp said.

OPH is funded by the Australian Government and administered by the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts.
