Australia Council appointments

The Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Dr Ann Galbally to the Australia Council's Literature Board and Mr Julian Knowles to the Australia Council's Music Board.

'I look forward to the contribution that Dr Galbally and Mr Knowles will make as new members of these Boards.' Senator Kemp said today.

Dr Ann Galbally is a member of the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne. While specialising as a writer in the Fine Arts field, she has also the curator of a number of exhibitions including, most recently the Charles Condor Retrospective 1868-1909 with Barry Pearce. Dr Galbally is currently a member of the Writers and Readers Committee of the State Library of Victoria.

Mr Julian Knowles is currently the Head of the School of Contemporary Arts at the University of Western Sydney and is also a freelance composer and performer. His creative work has included electronic and experimental music, new media arts and composition for theatre, dance, film and television. Mr Knowles has been a member of the Australian bands 'Shrinking Violets' and 'Even As We Speak'.

'I am confident Dr Galbally and Mr Knowles will play a valuable role on these boards, sharing their experience, skills and knowledge in the literature and music fields,' Senator Kemp said.

The Australia Council for the Arts is the Australian Government's principal arts funding and advisory body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to arts and cultural activities.
