Appointments to the Australian Film Commission

The Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Ms Rachel Perkins and Mr Colin South to the Australian Film Commission (AFC).

'Ms Perkins and Mr South both have a high degree of experience and commitment to the Australian film and television industries and will provide a significant contribution to the AFC,' Senator Kemp said.

'Ms Perkins is an established filmmaker who has contributed extensively to the development of Australia's indigenous filmmakers and the broader Australian film industry.'

In addition to her successful filmmaking career, directing the feature films Radiance and One Night the Moon, Ms Perkins has also been an executive producer for both the ABC and SBS. She has received five Australian Film Institute Awards, and is the current Chair of Indigenous Screen Australia. Ms Perkins is also a Council Member of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.

'Mr South is an established film producer who has more than 22 years experience in the film, television, animation and documentary industry,' Senator Kemp said.

Mr South's production credits include: the feature films Let's Get Skase, Beware of Greeks Bearing Guns and The Silver Brumby; animations such as Dogstar, John Callahan's QUADS! and The New Adventures of Ocean Girl; and numerous documentaries for SBS such as Don't Worry He Won't Get Too Far On Foot and Treasures of Macedonia. He is currently a producer with Media World Pictures Pty Ltd in Western Australia.

The AFC has responsibility for the National Collection of audiovisual material and is the Australian Government's primary development agency for the film, television and creative multimedia industries in Australia. A major supporter of screen culture in Australia it provides industry assistance through a range of measures and encourages the development, production, promotion, distribution and broadcasting of Australian programs.
