Appointment to Australia Council's New Media Arts Board

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Dr Bronte Adams to the Australia Council's New Media Arts Board.

'I would like to welcome Dr Adams and thank her for agreeing to participate in the work of the Australia Council's New Media Arts Board,' Senator Kemp said.

'Dr Adams is a former Rhodes Scholar and will bring to the Board a wealth of experience from the private and public sectors.

'She has a close association with the publishing industry and is currently a Director of Melbourne University Publishing and was formerly an editor with Virago Press in London.

'In addition Dr Adams has a strong awareness of the role of new media and new technologies in contemporary Australia and has previously been involved with the Australian Government's Broadband Advisory Group.'

The Australia Council New Media Arts Board supports arts projects that do not fall within traditional areas. Many projects supported by the Board use the medium of new technologies as a way of bringing artists or practitioners from non-arts disciplines together.

The Board also supports interdisciplinary art, where artists combine conventional artforms to create new forms of artistic expression.

The Australia Council is the Australian Government's principal arts funding and advisory body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to arts and cultural activities.
