Appointment to Australia Council Music Board
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Miss Barbara Gilby to the Australia Council's Music Board.
'With extensive experience playing violins in orchestras around the world Miss Gilby will make a valuable contribution to the work of the Board,' Senator Kemp said.
Miss Gilby is currently Senior Lecturer in Violin at the Australian National University School of Music. She has previously been concertmaster of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Senior Lecturer in Violin at the Canberra School of Music and first violin in the North German Radio Orchestra, Wuerttemberg Chamber Orchestra, Bremerhaven State Orchestra.
Miss Gilby has also performed at the Sydney Festival, the Canberra International Chamber Music Festival and the Brisbane Biennial Festival of Music. She has also been guest concertmaster for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
'Miss Gilby's experience and commitment to her art make her a valuable addition to the Music Board,' Senator Kemp said.
The Australia Council is the Australian Government's principal arts funding and advisory body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to arts and cultural activities.
