Appointment to Australia Council’s Major Performing Arts Board
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Mr Brian Jamieson to the Australia Council’s Major Performing Arts Board.
“Mr Jamieson’s experience and interest in arts–business partnerships together with his corporate strategic planning has given him valuable insights into the challenges facing the premier arts companies in Australia,” Senator Kemp said.
Mr Jamieson is a director and treasurer for The Bionic Ear Institute, the Menzies Foundation, and CARE Australia. He holds non-executive directorships with HBOS Australia, Oxiana Limited, Sigma Pharmaceuticals Limited, Tattersalls Limited, and Veski.
Mr Jamieson was formerly the Chief Executive Officer of Minter Ellison. He is a former Chairman of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and former Council Member of the Australia Business Arts Foundation, a Commonwealth-owned company which aims to increase private sector support for the arts.
“Mr Jamieson‘s experience both as a chartered accountant and CEO of KPMG and as a company director will be valued highly by his colleagues on the Major Performing Arts Board,” Senator Kemp said.
The Major Performing Arts Board aims to ensure that Australia has an artistically vibrant, financially viable and broadly accessible major performing arts sector.
The Australia Council is the Australian Government’s principal arts funding and advisory body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to arts and cultural activities.
