Tom Phillips appointed to the Australia Post board

The Minister for Finance and Administration, Senator Nick Minchin, and the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, today welcomed the appointment of Tom Phillips to the board of Australia Post.

Mr Phillips was CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd between June 2000 and October 2005. He also served as General Manager, Sales, and Director, Sales and Marketing, for Toyota Australia.

Since leaving Mitsubishi, Mr Phillips has been appointed as Chairman of the South Australian Training and Skills Commission. He was South Australian Businessman of the Year in 2002.

“Tom’s leadership and business acumen will be of great benefit and I am sure he will make a valuable contribution to Australia Post,” Senator Minchin said. “The logistics, marketing, transport and finance skills he brings to the table are a perfect fit for Australia Post’s needs.”

“I am delighted that Mr Phillips has agreed to join the Board. He brings with him a broad range of business expertise including more than 30 years experience in the Australian automotive industry,” Senator Coonan said.

The appointment will be for a period of three years.
