ICT secrets unearthed

The Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts Senator Helen Coonan, today announced that judging for the 2006 Secrets of Australian ICT Innovation competition was complete.

“The competition, now in its fifth year, has once again unearthed a wealth of innovative products and services being created in the Australian ICT industry,” Senator Coonan said.

The competition attracted 121 applications from all states and territories except Tasmania, across seven categories—business industrial software solutions, communication applications, security, commerce, health, learning and entertainment.

Following the two-stage judging process, 21 companies will now share in $105,000 worth of prizes that will help them showcase their products and ideas to customers, partners and investors in Australia and overseas.

“The Australian Government is committed to ensuring the development of the Australian ICT industry,” Senator Coonan said.

“We understand that innovation—developing skills, generating new ideas and turning them into commercial success—is the key to the nation’s future prosperity, with economic and social benefits for all Australians.”

Senator Coonan will announce the winners of the 2006 competition at a cocktail function in Melbourne on 13 March 2007.

“The winning companies will now gain valuable exposure for not only for their products and services but for the entire Australian ICT industry.”
