Celebrating Australia’s IT Innovation

Twenty-two Australian companies will have the opportunity to showcase their innovative products and ideas to national and international audiences after winning the 2005 Secrets of Australian IT Innovation competition.

The Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, today announced the winners of the 2005 Secrets of Australian IT Innovation Competition.

Now in its fourth year, the competition attracted 117 applications from all States and Territories. Entries were accepted in seven categories – business industrial software solutions, communication applications, security, commerce, health, learning and entertainment.

“This competition is raising Australia’s profile as not only an early adopter of ICT but a producer of truly innovative ICT solutions for a broad range of sectors,” Senator Coonan said.

The competition is judged by a panel drawn from leading technology practices, venture capital community, media, market research organisations and major overseas corporations.

Winning companies gain valuable exposure for their unique concepts. As their prize they have the option of choosing new IT equipment from competition sponsor Dell or the opportunity to present their product at major showcasing and promotion events nationally and internationally.

“Last year’s winners have already visited the United States of America, Canada, England, France and the Scandinavian countries to present their innovation and technology to international audiences and to compare their progress with industry peers,” Senator Coonan said.

The competition is an initiative of the Committee Marketing ICT of Australia and has received support from the state and territory governments, industry associations and research bodies.
