Australian students to attend ITU Telecom World 2006
Two Australian university students have been awarded fellowships to attend the International Telecommunication Union’s Telecom World 2006 conference in Hong Kong in December, the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan said today.
The University of Technology, Sydney students, Anna Lindquist and Sudave Singh have been offered fellowships to attend ITU Telecom World 2006 between 4-8 December.
Ms Lindquist is studying Information Technology and Mr Singh is studying Internet Business Technology.
“I congratulate both students for this significant achievement,” Senator Coonan said.
“The ITU provides fellowships to talented students of member nations to attend ITU events and take part in the Youth Forum. The Youth Forum is a capacity building event that helps cultivate the business and government leaders of tomorrow.
“I am sure that the experience Ms Lindquist and Mr Sudave will gain through their participation at the forum will be an important part of their development and will contribute to them becoming tomorrow’s IT and telecommunications leaders.”
The ITU is the United Nations agency responsible for telecommunications. Australia is a major contributor to the ITU and has been participating in ITU events since 1878.
ITU Telecom World 2006 will be held in Hong Kong between 4 and 8 December 2006 with the theme ‘Living the Digital World’.
