Australian Broadcasting Authority re-appointment

Mr Giles Tanner has been reappointed as a full time acting member of the Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, announced today .

Mr Tanner is a lawyer by training and has worked within the communications industry for nearly 20 years, chiefly in broadcasting and communications law and policy. He has also worked for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

He has been General Manager of the ABA since 1997.

Mr Tanner was initially appointed in September 2004 following the retirement of several members from the ABA and the Government's decision to establish, by 1 July 2005, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

Mr Tanner's reappointment will continue until 30 June 2005.

"I thank Mr Tanner for agreeing to continue in this important role in the lead-up to the creation of ACMA," Senator Coonan said.
