The death of legend Billy Thorpe means the Australian music scene has prematurely lost one of its pillars, the Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator George Brandis, said today.
“Billy Thorpe—with his various bands, especially The Aztecs, and in his solo efforts—set the stage alight for fans for over four decades,” Senator Brandis said.
“They set the standard for local rock performers.”
“During the early years, Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs dominated the Australian pop charts, rivalling the British ‘visitors’ for the frenzies they inspired in fans at their concerts.”
“At this time, my thoughts go to his family, friends and fans for their unexpected loss.”
“Billy Thorpe will remain an immortal of Australian rock history.”
