Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator George Brandis today congratulated Jana Rawlinson on reclaiming her world champion status at the world track and field championships in Osaka.

“Australian athletes have competed at all World Championships and our athletes have contributed many notable performances – but Jana’s effort last night was truly inspirational.”

Senator Brandis said the IAAF World Championships constitute one of the great international sporting events - this year attracting participation by 3200 athletes and officials from 212 countries and a worldwide viewing audience of over 4 billion.

“Jana Rawlinson has reclaimed the title of world champion and on behalf of all Australians I congratulate her both for her personal achievement and for her contribution to the nation’s sporting heritage.”
